When I learn a cool new fun fold, I can’t wait to show it to you! This one reminds me a little of those quirky little “cootie catchers” all us 80s kids made in elementary school. Do you still know how to make them? The beauty of the squash portion is that you can use those little scrap pieces of DSP you’ve been hoarding. (You know who you are, lol…and I’m raising my hand here because I’m a DSP hoarder as well.) I’m loving this fun fold and I know you will as well.

Isn’t this card just adorable. I can’t say I came up with the design all by myself. I was perusing Pinterest and came across a similar card front created by Terrie Allen so thanks to Terrie for coming up with such a cute color scheme and arrangement. I made mine a bit different but her card was definitely my inspiration. The Pool Party with Real Red is super vibrant together. And I love how perfectly the Granny Apple Green and Shaded Spruce Blends look together. It’s all about the colors here! The Festive Friends Bundle is so cute. I love how simple the images are and coloring is easy on these! I used the tree dies for the front of the card and the Perennial Postage Dies to cut all the cute shapes. There is also a layer of Vellum that I embossed with the So Swirly Embossing Folder – yes, Stampin’ Up brought back Vellum!! Hooray!! You’re probably wondering where that pretty DSP came from – wonder no more because it is part of the Nests of Winter 12×12 DSP. I use that paper all year round! The inside of my card has a little “snowflakage” in Pool Party but the focal point is that cool Squash card inside. Here’s what you need to know to create your own.

CUTTING/SCORING
BASE: (Pool Party) 5 1/2″x8 1/2″, score at 4 1/4″; misc pieces to decorate as shown
FRONT: (DSP or Vellum) 4″x5 1/4″ or cut with the largest Perennial Postage Die
SQUASH PANELS: (Pool Party) 4″x4″ (x2), score on the 2″ mark from top to bottom and side to side to create 4 squares, then make 1 score line in the diagonal. Fold the diagonal as a valley fold and the 2 straight scores as mountain folds – this allows it to collapse into the perfect shape. **see video
SQUASH PANEL PIECES: (Basic White) 1 3/4″x1 3/4″; (DSP Pattern 1) 1 3/4″x1 3/4″ (x3); (DSP Pattern 2) 1 3/4″x1 3/4″ (x4 and cut diagonally to make 8 triangles)
INSIDE: (Real Red) 1″x5 1/2″; (DSP) 7/8″x5 1/2″

I used the Autumn Toile Suite to create this card. As you can see, even though it’s a Fall/Thanksgiving forward set, you can create non holiday cards with it! Just change up the colors or vibe. I used Early Espresso and Very Vanilla Cardstock to create this card base.

I wasn’t done playing with my Festive Friends! I made this card using the Regal Distressed Patterns DSP. The base is Pretty Peacock. Lost Lagoon pairs perfectly with Pretty Peacock so there you go! I used my Stylish Shapes dies for the front tag. Also, notice how the Festive Friends Bundle comes with a tag die – perfect for your gift tags!

I just had to give you a fourth sample because there’s a brand new Online Exclusive Out and I absolutely love it. It’s the Brushed with Beauty Suite Collection and it comes with so many wonderful products. I love the beautiful flowers in the Petals of Beauty stamps and dies and the Words of Beauty stamps and dies pair perfectly. The DSP is stunning and if that wasn’t enough you also get Vellum (yes it’s back!!), the Beautiful Pattern Embossing Folder and Pearls of Beauty embellishments. Check out my online store to see all these beautiful products!

Try the Squash Card out – it makes such a fun card and anyone who is lucky enough to receive it will be completely impressed with your creative paper crafting skills!

Happy Crafting!
