How to Make a Flared Step Card

Here’s a fun and unique card to create for someone special. I really enjoy how this one stands up and the little steps add a nice decorative touch. I especially like the card hidden in the middle. You can find some creative ways to make a little pull tab to really add some extra fun to the card fold. I’ve made several of these for you and have several ready to go for those special people in my life. Let me show you this Flared Step Card.

Have you seen the brand new Homemade Sweetness Suite? It’s perfect for Spring and so much fun to craft with. I’m currently here in Lakeland, FL which is very close to Plant City where the annual Strawberry Festival is about to begin. Strawberry season here is no joke. You can’t come here in March and not stop at a local farm and grab up some shortcake with those yummy berries. And, after that come blueberry season. When we lived here before rv life took over, we always picked fresh blueberries – I think we ate as many as we picked!! This suite brings back those memories.

I used Misty Moonlight for my card base and used Pretty in Pink and Strawberry Slush cardstock as well. I stamped in those same colors and then used the Homemade Sweetness Designer Series Paper to decorate both the jar top and the layers. The dies have so many pieces that you’ll not only love to use, but you’ll want to use them with other stamp set, too. Especially all the tags! Did you know it also comes with a large die that create a card in the shape of that jar? I can’t wait to make some of those next!! Here’s how to make this fun Flared Step Card.

CUTTING/SCORING MEASUREMENTS
BASE: (Misty Moonlight) 4 1/4″x10 1/2″, score at 5 1/4″; (Basic White) 4 1/8″x4 3/8″; (DSP) 4″x4 1/4″
STEP: (Misty Moonlight) 4 1/4″x5 1/2″, score at 3/4″, 1 1/2″, 2 3/4″, 4″, and 4 3/4″
STEP LAYERS: (Basic White) 5/8″x4 1/8″ (x2); (DSP) 1/2″x 4″ (x2)
INSIDE CARD: (Strawberry Slush) 3 3/4″x4 3/4″; (Basic White) 3 1/2″x4 1/2″; (DSP) 3/4″ x 3 1/2″
EXTRA: Add a pull tab with a scrap of coordinating ribbon or a die cut.

This card uses the Cute as a Bug Sweet and it’s definitely cute as a bug. I really enjoy crafting with this suite. It just makes me smile. The card base is Mossy Meadow and I layered it with Old Olive and Timeless Plaid Designer Series Paper (retiring soon.). I hope they bring some new plaid paper in the future because it is so easy to pull into many of the stamp sets. I stamped in Mossy Meadow. The images on the front of the card are fussy cut directly from the designer series paper and attached to Basic White cut from the Everyday Arches dies. I stamped the inside card in Tuxedo Black Memento Ink and then used my Stampin’ Blends to color it all in, making sure to pull in colors from the front of the card – like Calypso Coral, Mossy Meadow and Petal Pink. I finished off my card with embellishments and touches of Clear Wink of Stella.

Have you seen the new Cutest Crew Bundle in the March Online Exclusives. This one is so much fun. Who doesn’t love playful puppies, frolicking kittens or friendly little birds? You get all that plus some really great sentiments in this set. I love how thoughtfully they created the dies. We have dies that cut out the clusters of animals, plus individual dies for each critter, border dies and other images to pull it all together. It’s just purfect!! The card base is Calypso Coral and Early Espresso with some more of that awesome Timeless Plaid Designer Series Paper (retiring). If you don’t have that paper, anything else will do or you can create your own backgrounds with either stamps or embossing folders. There are just so many options. I used the Stylish Shapes Dies to create the little banners on the front and added part of one more to my inside card as a pull tab. This might just be my favorite of the 3 card designs – but it’s really a toss up because I love them all.
